BERNADETTE V COOK FUND FOR PITBULLS MADE OF SPARE PARTS

Bernadette V Cook was rescued by us from the South LA Shelter and loved to the moon and back a billion times over by her adopted family. She defines "Magical Unicorn" and was a true ambassador for shelter dogs-especially pitbull type dogs. This fund is for all the pitbull type dogs we love -especially the old, the sick, the wonky, the ones missing legs and eyes-those are the ones who need us the most and that is what the Bernadette V Cook Fund is for.

THE BEULAH BUTTERBEAN FUND FOR WAYWARD GRANNIES

BEULAH Fund Version.png

We rescued a severely overweight and depressed Beaulah who had a mass the size of a cantaloupe attached to her from the South LA Shelter where she was kenneled back in medical hiding in her cubby. Her foster family quickly became her forever family and to say she won the dog lotto would be quite an understatement. She is the definition of gladiator grannie!

This fund was graciously set up by Beulah’s family who, like us, have a soft spot for the grannies! You can now donate specifically to the wayward grannies thanks to Beaulah! It’s a special fund just for them!!

THE MANNY FUND

Sadly, senior dogs are surrendered to shelters every day and most of them go unnoticed. Often times, sick and senior dogs end up in shelters because their owners lack the financial resources to provide medical care or even the cost of humane euthanasia. We set up The Manny Fund to help senior and medical needs pets and their owners by keeping them out of the shelters and in their first (forever) homes. Our vow is that Manny will be remembered, and that his story can serve as a reminder of the countless other dogs who also need our help.

MANNY'S STORY

Manny is a very special dog who touched the hearts of people around the world. Manny was surrendered by his owners to the Lancaster shelter - a crowded, high-kill shelter in Los Angeles County - at the age of 10. Luckily, a caring volunteer at the shelter shared a video of Manny, eyes closed tightly, trembling in fear in his kennel. Upon seeing this, the team at A Purposeful Rescue cried our eyes out, then quickly called everyone we knew to formulate an escape plan...and it worked! We placed Manny in a loving foster home. Manny's story had gone viral, and the emails and adoption applications poured in. Tragically, the very next morning we got a call from Manny's foster mom telling us our boy had passed away in his sleep. We couldn't wrap our heads around it. It just wasn't fair. We thought this was the beginning of his happily ever after. The only comfort we have is knowing that he went peacefully, on a soft bed with his loving foster mom by his side. In the words of Christina, the shelter volunteer, "It means the world to me to have seen him walk out of there. To feel the sun and the dirt on the ground. His wagging tail speaks volumes. His dying wish was for someone to come and show him love again."

FOREVER FOSTERS

The Manny Fund sponsors medical care for our "Forever Fosters" - dogs who live out their remaining time as loved and cherished family members in our incredible foster homes.

HALLIE

AGE: 8 year WEIGHT: 70 lbs BREED: Mastiff

I am Hallie, and I am one lucky dog. I met the nice folks from APR at the shelter — just as my previous family was abandoning me. I was very distressed, to say the least. Who wouldn’t be? But now, I’m getting the care I and attention I deserve.

SPRITE
